ABOUT ME

Melissa Coyle is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-R) and book author in private practice and has worked in behavioral health for over 20 years.  She works with adults on a multitude of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, coping skills, grief and loss.  She has a special place in her heart for grief and pet loss survivors and enjoys helping them transition from a journey of loss and pain to one of hope and growth..

Prior to private practice, Melissa was a psychiatric clinician at Pilgrim State, Sagamore Children's Center, St. Catherine's Medical Center, NSLIJ Glen Cove and Stony Brook Hospital.

I typically work from a psychodynamic perspective, also known as insight-oriented therapy. Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the psychological roots of emotional suffering. Its hallmarks are self-reflection and self-examination. The goals of psychodynamic therapy are a client's self-awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on present behavior.  Although I primarily work from a psychodynamic perspective I also utilize techniques from other schools of thought as appropriate.  Having completed a multitude of trainings in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), I can help you improve the quality of your life.

In addition to being a psychotherapist, Melissa is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Certified Grief and Loss Specialist, Certified Pet Loss Specialist and a Certified Telemental Health Provider.  She has worked with several animal rescues, is an active member of the Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement (APLB) and was recently invited to join the charitable organization of “100 Women of Huntington,” an invite she proudly accepted.

Personalized Care and Guidance
I work with individual adults ages 18 and up.  Through my time as a therapist I have come to learn that there is a strong correlation between the mind and body and so I also offer, when appropriate, alternative treatment modalities in addition to talk therapy.  I am certified in Reiki, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)/Tapping and Mindfulness.
